Some prefer gold, others prefer silver, but it’s fair to say having an obsession with jewelry is common amongst us all. These accessories are essential to make one feel special, while adding some extra spunk to complete the perfect fit.

Undoubtedly, jewelry has evolved and we have come a long way from spamming our forearms with an outrageous amount of Silly Bandz. More recently, the hot look of combining pearls and bright beads is the trend of this summer, a Blair Waldorf meets E-girl type-of-look.

SHEESH! spoke with five jewelry companies on the rise, all of which create the most adorable (and also affordable) pieces of jewelry. These trendy pieces are the perfect addition to include in your wardrobe for what’s left of this summer. Time to get your hands on one, or maybe all of these brands’ breathtaking jewelry pieces.

1. BRITE*THINGS

Nico Perez independently designs and creates the most stunning, colorful pieces of jewelry under the brand BRITE*THINGS. Currently based out of Fort Worth, Texas, Nico and the brand plan on moving to New York City in the upcoming months.

“My brand was created during a time I had absolutely no artistic direction. I kept having ideas and inspiration to create but didn’t know what to anchor it to.” Nico soon got over the lack of direction and began handcrafting jewelry, which instantly grabbed the attention of people who wanted to purchase their items, thus the brand BRITE*THINGS fell into place.

Nico’s favourite piece of jewelry from BRITE*THINGS is ‘the_bottomofthesink_necklace’. “It’s kid- like, fun to wear and goes with anything!”

‘the_bottomofthesink_necklace’ and ‘sweet dainty bb fl✿wer’ earrings. Purchase these pieces and more on their website.

2. SWEATY PIGEON

An Nguyen is the owner and creator behind the brand Sweaty Pigeon, based out of Los Angeles. This brand does not fail to make each piece of jewelry they sell a must have – it’s hard to choose just one.

During An’s senior year of college, she was given access to work with a 3-D printer. “I started making these very crude and simple earrings by laser cutting acrylic just for fun.” After graduating, she turned her hobby into a business and created the Sweaty Pigeon Instagram page. “I see Sweaty Pigeon as an extension of my practice as a multimedia artist and it brings me a lot of joy to create these whimsical pieces.”

And if the brand isn’t cool enough already, their logo is an image of a pigeon wearing a piece of their jewelry around its neck.

An’s favourite piece of jewelry Sweaty Pigeon sells is any of her bolo tie necklaces. “They’re so unique and can instantly jazz up any outfit.”

The ‘Spring Dream Bolo’ and ‘Summer Melon’ earrings. Purchase these pieces and more on their website.

3. JANKY JEWELS

Inside the walls of her Brooklyn, New York studio apartment, 21-year old Carol Li spends her days handcrafting jewelry for her brand Janky Jewels. Carol’s father was a jeweler and she previously interned for the brand Susan Alexandra, therefore it was embedded in her to begin handcrafting jewelry herself.

“I started making jewelry for myself by taking apart the toys I would collect and fusing them with hardware and chains.” Li’s jewelry designs are full of pearls, which become more eccentric when she adds her own personal touch of bright beads and toys to the pieces. Carol’s favourite piece of jewelry from Janky Jewels is anything involving pearls, “I truly think they elevate everyone’s look and personal style in general.”

The ‘coney island kiss’ necklace and ‘send me over the edge’ earrings. Purchase these pieces and more on their website.

4. PAR MOI

In Melbourne, Australia, 31-year old Ashiya Omundsen created her brand Par Moi, which specializes in selling handcrafted womenswear and accessories. She ensures her brand omits mass selling products to her customers and instead focuses on selling limited, exclusive quantities. “This allows me to keep the price as fair as possible without markups.” The brand is very personal to Ashiya, as each piece she assembles is a reflection of her own unique style.

Ashiya’s favourite piece of jewelry from Par Moi is the ‘Dazy Necklace’ which comes in three different colors – fire orange, mellow yellow and dark red.

5. EARTHY ANGELRY

Belle Zhao was only 12-years old when she began creating and selling her own jewelry through her first brand ‘Behll’. She would lock herself in her room, handcraft jewelry and conduct photoshoots to put her products up on Etsy.

It’s been almost a full decade since Belle began creating jewelry and now at 21-years old, she launched her new business, Earth Angelry. “This passion project of mine is not only a reclamation of my childhood dreams, but my redemption and second chance to learn that failure is self-measured.”

Belle’s favourite item Earth Angelry sells is their ‘Dice Dice Baby’ earrings.

The ‘Dice Dice Baby’ earrings and ‘Sweet Tarts’ eyeglass chain. Purchase these pieces and more on their website.

Whether you want one or all of these beautiful pieces, your purchase comes with the added bonus of supporting independent, small companies making jewelry that’s handcrafted and well-loved. The many hours of devotion that goes into creating these items will surely spice up your wardrobe and complete any dazzling summer look.
