Joyce: Ambient New Sound

Joyce musician artist

At 15-years-old, Joyce is a musician fresh on the London music scene. Her intriguing sound and ambient beats are quickly making their way into people’s playlists. This unique sound takes inspiration from artists like Cuco, Dayglow, and Jacob Ogawa, with her latest track “Unseen Miracles” being inspired by feelings of nostalgia and enjoying one’s own company. Her musical ambitions stem from her life experiences growing up as a first generation black British citizen.

Q: How would you describe your persona and passions?

Joyce: I’m very into the mind and nature. I’m a nature girl and I love everything to do with love. In my spare time, which I haven’t had much of lately, I do meditation, yoga, listen to music and I admire the creations of the Earth. I love hearing new sounds and the mystery of hearing a song and never knowing what it’s called. A blank vinyl is a perfect example of this, I can only go to one place to find it. It’s an amazing feeling.

Q: You have a really incredible family history, what experiences can you share?

Joyce: A civil war broke out when my parents lived in Ivory Coast. They decided to move to London in search of opportunities and an alternate lifestyle. I’ve lived a very nomadic lifestyle by moving all over the UK. I grew up in Essex but it wasn’t until I moved to London that I finally found myself. All of these places and experiences are a part of who I am and have shaped me into the individual I am today.

Q: What are your current pursuits?

Joyce: I am currently pursuing the satisfaction of making music that people enjoy.

Q: What are some of your long term aspirations especially in your music career?

Joyce: Something I’d love to share is an aspiration and dream of mine for two people who love each other to have one of my songs as ‘their’ song. When they hear my song play, their eyes will glow with a love that is radiant for one another.

Q: What can you tell me about your new music that just recently dropped?

Joyce: I love my recent song, “Unseen Miracles”. It’s a work of art and honestly a vibe. Someone recently told me that it feels like going stargazing, and I resonate with that. It’s a song to watch while the sun is setting or while you’re gazing at the stars. It’s the top down in a car with the wind blowing in your hair kind of song. It reflects a new chapter in your life and the feeling of being complete.

Q: How would you describe your sound and style?

Joyce: I’d describe my sound as mellow, relaxing, and even a bit complex.

Q: Do you have any creatives you look up to or take inspiration from?

Joyce: Music-wise, my brothers Wilfred and Alvvays. Everytime I hear their music I’m always amazed by the sounds they come up with.

Q: You seem to be really into fashion, who are your inspirations and how would you describe your style?

Joyce: I love clothes, especially styling them. I am really into hair as well. I take inspiration from 80’s hairstyles that are very natural and big. I watch a lot of movies from the 50’s all the way to the 90’s and have gotten inspiration from the characters. I also take inspiration from people in London.

Q: What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned this far as a musician?

Joyce: To be patient and keep trying again!

Q: What’s a personal message you’d love to share to your fans?

Joyce: Thank you for all the support on “Kiss & Chase” and now “Unseen Miracles.” Have the best day ever and remember that you’re all so amazing!
