July 7th @ 8:56pm, The Virgil — It’s a warm night on the edge of Silver Lake as we skip towards the inviting red arrow that reads COCKTAILS. The Virgil, a beloved neighborhood bar, entertainment venue, and rumored set of Avril Lavigne’s “I’m With You” music video, beckoned us this night for one very important reason. One million reasons, actually.

Imagine a world where Morgan Freeman and Taylor Swift are breathing the same sweaty air as furries and fae/faers. For one night only, divisions don’t exist. In this simulation, celebrity status is a force that strengthens, not separates. Under the omnipresence of Weston Allen and friends, diverse disciples band together for a few hours of fame, fun, and free expression.

As a director, editor, and all around creative, Weston Allen is no stranger to bringing alternate realities to life. He’s credited on several magnum opus level music videos for Dorian Electra, 100 Gecs, Rebecca Black, 3OH!3, The Garden, and more. Equally epic components of Weston’s cinematic universe are the videos for songs written and produced by the legend himself. If you haven’t watched Girls From The Parking Lot yet, do yourself a favor…

But on this fateful evening, the party was not in the parking lot. Let’s head back inside to see just how the Night of One Million Celebrities unfolded.

It’s 9:10pm and we’re chatting with Brian, who’s wearing a cowboy hat and does booking and managing at The Virgil. “I’m very happy to have Amanda, Weston, Dorian and everybody else here.” Motioning to the guest list he adds, “And I’m excited to see which Elvis impersonator is better, Elvis #1 or Elvis #2.”

As event attendees filled the bar’s main room, their excitement was also apparent. We talked to Alice and Raquel, two Dorian Electra stans that were dying to see the green haired popstar slay a DJ set. Raquel, who’s been a fan of Electa since 2019, was ready to witness Dorian in all of their glory live for the first time.

But Dorian didn’t go up alone— they were back to back the whole night with a very groovy Austin Powers lookalike. Their set started off with M’lady, featured some Cold Play and a crowdsurf, and ended with everyone in the highest of spirits. Brielle, self-proclaimed #1 Dorian Electra fan, was the highest in the room. “I am so glad I finally got to see them DJ in person. It appeared that they even played some new songs, at least one new song, which really got me going.”

As Dorian headbanged, bounced around, and took a plethora of 0.5 zoom videos, @austinpowersimpersonator dutifully live streamed and looked like he was having the time of his life. As he should, considering Austin Powers facsimiles sparked the initial inspiration for this night’s theme.

“I had a birthday party at the Austin Powers themed bar, which is unfortunately gone now, but I met an Austin Powers impersonator and that’s where I got the idea to combine real people with fake people,” Weston explained. The real people, in this case, are stranger (and more awesome) than fiction. “I never miss a Dylan Brady DJ set so I’m very excited,” continues Weston. “I’m also very excited to see Alex Cameron up there with Morgan Freeman, I just met Alex a couple weeks ago so I’m glad I could bring these two together.”

As the first DJ on the docket, Alex Cameron was trusted with the almighty task of getting this party started. And that’s exactly what he did. During his simply epic set, he kept his cool by chatting it up with fake Morgan Freeman, intermittently leaning back and swaying, and occasionally smoldering at the crowd. Perfectly priming everyone for the musical madness that quickly ensued. The rest of the DJ duos graced the stage in the following order: Dorian and Austin, Lil Texas and Lady Gaga, Dylan Brady and Taylor Swift, Weston Allen and Elvis, and finally, Fantasyluv and Deadmouse.

Texas turned the bar into a raging dance party, and with each successive track picked up the pace (lets go faster?). As a hype version of Moana’s “How Far I’ll Go” blasted, the lights glimmered off Lil Texas’ septum ring and Gaga’s sequin one piece, bringing out the little monster in all of us.

As the clock approached midnight, a simulated Taylor Swift danced on stage to a Dylan Brady-ified version of “22”. Despite the fact that his face was mostly obscured by a Florida hat with flames on it, every so often the straight-faced Dylan blessed the crowd with a true gift: a coy little smile.

Then something crazy happened. Apparently Elvis #1 and Elvis #2 weren’t enough, because Weston Allen was joined at the helm by four Elvis Presely impersonators. Thank you very much sound bites were beautifully interspersed throughout the set and the fervor of the crowd showed no signs of slowing. After the final boss— DJ Fantasyluv— slayed us all, it was unfortunately time to say farewell to the night.

But no one fret! It’s not goodbye, just see you later. Dearest Gec Groupies and Dorian Devotees, let Weston’s prophecy be your hope for the future: “We are definitely going to be doing more of these. I’m thinking New York, London, and maybe Chicago.”
