BADBARE is a newly launched jewelry line created by Claire Sofia, a twenty-three year old from Los Angeles who is now living and working in Miami. The necklaces and earrings are all bold, show-stopping pieces that can dress up any outfit. The jewelry is not only cute, but is also ethically made and philanthropic, with a portion of all proceeds donated to a different animal sanctuary each month. BADBARE has quickly grown within the past few months, so SHEESH! decided to sit down with Claire to learn more about the inspiration behind the brand and find out what’s coming next for the jewelry line.

Can you tell us specifically about the inspiration behind your most recent collection, Volume 6 Princess?

“For Vol. 6 I wanted something with all my favorite icons (hearts, butterflies, locks), and simple staple earrings. There are a lot of hardships in the world right now and I didn’t want to do a ‘serious’ collection. I wanted something light-hearted that would make me happy to make—and make my customers happy to wear. I also bought some pink fabric for my photographer, Grace (@milkandhoneymiami), to shoot on and was inspired by that to add some pink to the collection. Volume 6 is one of my favorites because I wasn’t trying too hard to be on trend with jewelry, but rather just making pieces I love.”

Where does your inspiration for new jewelry come from?

“I’m always finding inspiration in daily life for new jewelry pieces. It’s impossible to pinpoint one source of inspiration! I love looking at different textures in nature and seeing how to bring that into my jewelry.”

Why do you feel it is important to make your jewelry with ethically sourced products and ship them sustainably?

“In my daily life I only shop ethically and sustainably (and boycott fast fashion on social media, often), so it would be so wrong to own a business that did not follow my own morals. Fast fashion is criminal in so many ways, [and] workers are often in unsafe conditions and not paid a living wage. There is so much waste involved, and harmful chemicals used that destroy our environment. I love knowing my packaging does not contribute to the world’s plastic problem and will compost and return to nature.”

We love that you donate a portion of your profit to a charity! Why did you choose animal sanctuaries?

“To be honest, I was working my first job out of college and realized I wanted more money to donate to the charities I cared about, and that’s why I started BADBARE jewelry in the first place. I typically donate to animal sanctuaries because ending animal suffering is my biggest passion in life. I’ve worked with animal rights organizations before but quickly got burnt out and over-emotional due to how much I care about the cause. Through BADBARE I don’t only donate just to animals though, I will host giveaways where the winner will receive jewelry and I will donate to a cause of their choice!”

Is there anything exciting in the works that we should be looking forward to?

“There is always something exciting! I am working on something I’ve never sold before, that I’ve gotten requests for, and I’m so excited to bring it to BADBARE.”
