Despite the many hardships brought by COVID-19, social distancing and staying inside has had some benefits for both artists and fans. There are fewer distractions, so musicians have been creating and releasing a lot of new work within the past couple months. And in an attempt to keep life interesting, fans are using their time to discover new music. Here are some recent releases worth checking out.
“XS” – Rina Sawayama
British artist Rina Sawayama released her debut album last month. “XS” is a standout, upbeat track on the album with a sensual 2000s vibe. We recommend adding it to your playlist, and check out Rina’s Instagram because she is extremely cool.
“Lamp Lady” – Sevdaliza
If you prefer a grunge sound, listen to “Lamp Lady” by Iranian-Dutch singer Sevdaliza. It is eerily beautiful with minimal production and electronic beats.
“Chicago Freestyle” – Drake
As you probably know, Drake recently released his Dark Lane Demo Tapes. Our favorite on the album is “Chicago Freestyle” featuring Giveon; however, a close second is “Pain 1993” with Playboi Carti.
“WHEN I GROW UP” – Yaeji
One of our favorite house music producers, Yaeji, has released a new album titled What We Drew 우리가 그려왔. It is full of intriguing combinations of interesting beats, hip-hop influences, and repeated Korean phrases. Let “WHEN I GROW UP” play straight into the next track, “MONEY CAN’T BUY,” and have some fun.
“Funny” – Anna Shoemaker
Pop artist Anna Shoemaker released her EP Everything is Embarrassing at the end of February. “Funny” has an uplifting tempo and you will be singing along before you know it.
“If You’re Too Shy (Let Me Know) – The 1975
This song is one of the eight tracks that The 1975 has released in anticipation of their fourth album’s release this Friday. We’ve had it on repeat ever since it came out on April 23rd, and can’t wait to hear the rest of the album.
“Killshot” – Magdalena Bay
This funky song by independent LA duo Magdalena Bay is irresistible and there is no way you won’t dance to it. We promise within seconds that you will be bobbing your head to the beat.
And don’t worry, we already created a playlist featuring all these songs for you on Spotify.
