From monster-sized shoes (see Balenciaga Triple S and Fila Disruptors) to iced out studded belts (see BB Simon) there have been many recent contributions to the obnoxious, and often ironic, side of fashion. Trucker hats, with their oversized proportions and loud logos, are one accessory that can’t be forgotten.
SHEESH! broke down the top 5 brands that make trucker hats worthy of the hype. Let us know on Instagram @sheeshmagazine which ones we missed, ranked wrong, or got spot on.
5. Rhude
Despite Rhude only being established in 2015, the brand has already made itself a staple in the wardrobe of celebrities like A$AP Rocky, Justin Bieber, Offset, and more. While Rhude is most known for its graphic tees and hoodies, their hats are deserving of some attention as well.
With their bulky build and foamy material, Rhude’s hats perfectly embody the classic trucker style. Not to mention, many of their designs reference the automobile industry that this look pays homage to. Rhude’s truckers retail for $120.00 but sell out fast, and it’s not hard to see why. Their simplicity and high quality makes them deserving of the number 5 spot.
4. Bass Pro Shop
Bass Pro Shop hats are the epitome of an ironic and iconic accessory that can add flare to any fit (and if it’s not ironic… that’s a serious concern.)
With a variety of designs, from classic to camo to neon, there is a Bass Pro Shop cap to satisfy everyone’s style, whether that be subtle or stand-out. The best part about these is that they retail for as low as $3.99 on Bass Pro’s website, and are a great affordable alternative to other high end hats.
3. La Ropa
As seen on Post Malone, Bella Hadid, Zack Bia, and almost every other streetwear aware individual, La Ropa hats have recently become one of the most sought after accessories. With their bright colors, playful lips logo, and classic LA and NY designs, these hats are purposefully loud and perfectly obnoxious.
La Ropa has a diverse array of trucker hats available for purchase ranging from $60 to $80. The brand’s flashy take on the traditional Dodgers and Yankees logos makes these truckers unique yet versatile, and earns them the number 3 spot on this list.
2. Chrome Hearts
The appeal of Chrome Hearts stems from the brand being equal parts insanely popular but also mysteriously elusive. While their distinct logo seems to have stamped the clothes of almost everyone in LA, their products are hard to acquire if you don’t live near a Chrome Hearts store. Because the company does not directly sell anything online, Chrome Hearts hopefuls that can’t buy in person are forced to get their goods for resale prices. And Chrome Hearts hats are no exception. On Grailed and StockX, their truckers can be priced anywhere from $150 to $450.
With gothic overtones and prominent cross iconography, Chrome Hearts puts a darker twist on an otherwise common hat. The imposition of bold branding on a solid base creates a statement piece that stands out, but is still wearable on the daily. For their design and desirability, Chrome Hearts earns the number two spot on SHEESH’s list of notable trucker brands.
1. Von Dutch
Coming in at number one is the brand that claims to have started it all. Von Dutch’s website boasts that they “largely created the fashion accessory we call the trucker hat”, which is a statement that’s hard to dispute. Back in the early 2000s, some of the biggest names were spotted sporting these hats, including Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Jay-Z, Ashton Kutcher, and Paris Hilton.
Recently, the hats have resurged in popularity again after Kylie Jenner flaunted them multiple times on her Instagram.
Luckily for consumers, Von Dutch caps can be copped for the relatively low price of about $40. And, the iconic brand makes them in just about every colorway and funky pattern imaginable.
Because they were the first ones to make trucker hats a must-have accessory, Von Dutch is deserving of the #1 spot.
SHEESH! counted down the top 5 brands that do truckers right, with Von Dutch reigning supreme. We’d like to award an honorable mention to the trucker Trevor Gorji teased on his Instagram, which he claimed he’d drop in exchange for 1,000,000 comments (has yet to be achieved). Nothing better concludes a list of ironically fashionable hats than the hat that is most outwardly ironic. Ily Trevor.
