Monday:
LUCY MCFADIN: This was a really fun and comfortable look. I’m wearing a thrifted D.A.R.E. t-shirt which I thought was really funny for this photo because I’m smoking a joint. I actually got it from a flea market type sale that my friends and I occasionally hold in Southern California, which always just ends up being me buying all my friends’ clothing. The sweatpants were a Christmas gift and they’re the brand Stussy, which I have always loved. The vest is from Kith and I originally regretted buying it but now vests are one of my favorite trends so I’m really happy I have it. Lastly, the beanie was a gift from my sister’s boyfriend, this outfit is actually all menswear which is one of the reasons I love it so much.
Tuesday:
LUCY MCFADIN: This outfit actually has a really good story to go with it, I was doing laundry at a sort of run down laundromat one day and this woman had hung up a bunch of clothing on the walls for people to buy. Most of it was stained, old, or torn, so not much of it was selling. I noticed these jeans on the wall with the price marked as ten dollars and I fell in love with them. I later came to find out that they’re real GCDS denim, and they retail for over 700 dollars. That is definitely my best thrift— or I guess in this case the laundromat— find and I was so excited that they fit so well. The brown button up is Shop Resurrection and it’s super comfortable. Also, you can wear it in so many different ways which makes it really easy to style.
How would you describe your style?
LUCY MCFADIN: My personal style is very eclectic and I think it’s changing all the time from what I see in my day-to-day life. A lot of my inspiration comes from my social media like Instagram and TikTok, but my main source of inspiration comes from people I see on the streets of New York. I feel like there is such a diverse range of people here, and everyone’s style is so different that it’s really fun to watch and gain inspiration from that. A lot of my style comes from just thrifting cool and funky pieces. Finding muted elegant pieces is also my favorite because I really like that juxtaposition of crazy colors and prints, then adding a really elegant piece to balance it out.
Wednesday:
LUCY MCFADIN: I started this look off with my zebra Doc Martens because I used to be really scared to style them and now I am really in love with them. Then I am wearing a Realisation Par dress that I rolled up to look like a mini skirt, which is an awesome tip I learned from my roommate. The bag is Opening Ceremony which kind of breaks my heart because they’re not open anymore and they were one of my favorite stores. The top is a tequila company’s merch, they’re called Los Sundays and I just threw on my Shop Resurrection jacket with it to make it a little bit edgier. One of my favorite things to do is mix edgy materials with soft patterns, I think it makes the outfit really interesting.
Thursday:
LUCY MCFADIN: We have another pair of loafers for this look, but they’re from Vagabond this time. I was consistently getting Instagram ads for them and then just gave in and bought them one day and now they’re my favorite loafers. The belt and the jeans are both thrift finds and the pants are Levi’s. The belt buckle has little mushrooms on it, which is my absolute favorite design. I hate mushrooms as food but I think the shape and look is so cute for styling. The sweater vest is from my favorite place to shop, aka my sisters closet, so I have no clue where that’s actually from but I love the sweater vest trend and just layering knitwear in general. I was in California when I wore this so it was perfect but if I wore this in New York I would add some more layers to it, like a long sleeve under it and a jacket over it.
What is your favorite fashion trend at the moment?
LUCY MCFADIN: I really love fingerless mittens and leg warmers right now because it has been so cold in New York recently. I also really like the sort of Southern California take on that too, where I have been seeing a lot of people cut up fishnets and wear them as tops or gloves under their shirts, I think that’s really interesting and fun.
Friday:
LUCY MCFADIN: I was completely unsure of this outfit when I first put it on because biker shorts are always a little iffy to me but throughout the day I ended up really liking it. The t-shirt is a Virgil Abloh design which I bought from Canary Yellow, and it’s one of my favorite shirts to spice up an outfit with. The bag is my work bag from ASOS, I am trying to buy more sustainably but I’ve had this bag for forever! Then I put on some Nike white sneakers because I was running around the city that day.
What are some new fashion trends or items that you are eager to experiment with in 2021?
LUCY MCFADIN: I have been watching so many fashion prediction videos on TikTok recently so I am feeling really inspired to experiment with my style in 2021. Trends like patchwork, delicate mesh, and chunky knitwear are all some things that I am really excited to work with this year. Layering isn’t a new trend at all but that’s one of my favorite things to do, so with all these new delicate pieces coming out I am excited to continue layering in a new way for the upcoming seasons.
