London-based Tallulah Jones’ fashion sense is inspired by the world around her. At just 17, her signature style is bold, bright and beautiful. Influenced by the likes of Basquait and Terry Urban, Lula can often be seen in brands such as House of Sunny, Paloma Wool, Acne Studios, Eytys, Suzan Alexandra and Gimaguas, accessorizing perfectly with vintage scarves and unique thrifted pieces. ‘If you put all of these together in any combination, you pretty much have my style mixed with some special vintage designer bags’, she says. ‘I don’t like to follow trends. I just do my own thing’. Fashion, styling and textiles have always been important to Tallulah and from as early as the age of three, she wore outfits that were ‘a bit crazy—often mismatched and always a bit different’. Sheesh Magazine chatted with Lula Jones as she led us through a week of outfits combining colourful pastels, prints and platforms to complete her looks.
MONDAY:
“I want to feel relaxed and chilled whilst working on my Depop shop. It’s my first day of study leave from University where I’m studying for a Fashion Foundation in London. The sun is shining and it’s a bit chilly, so I’m going for warm spring vibes. My coat, trousers and knitted jumper are from House of Sunny and my bag is from @Bexbags on Instagram. The scarf is thrifted and the printed envelopes for postage are handmade for my Depop shop.”
TUESDAY:
“I’m wearing my new trousers I had made for me by a really clever artist. They arrived this week in the post, and she’s patched together loads of photo images as the print. They are a cosy material on the inside and super comfy. I’m going to Notting Hill to see a friend and wander around, it’s got such a cool inspirational vibe there. My rings are from La Manso, my glasses are vintage and my mac is from my Grandad Bruce! The vest top is Eytys and my necklace is from E.M.P Emporium. on Instagram.”
WEDNESDAY:
“Today I’m going for a coffee with my friend so I wanted something relaxed and comfortable. I’m loving my new House of Sunny coat, and the Paloma Wool trousers are super comfy and chic and remind me of Gaudi in Barcelona.”
What are some staple pieces in your wardrobe?
LULA JONES: Fluffy hats, lots of hats, fluffy coats, lots of long coats, long wide leg trousers, knitted tops and trousers and jumpers. Lots of rings, Naked Wolf Platforms, Eytys trainers, Scarfes, Christian Dior vintage handbags.
THURSDAY:
“Today I wore my House of Sunny coat whilst picking some flowers on a nice spring day. I’m accessorising with a vintage Louis Vuitton headscarf and a vintage Dior bag. My top is Paloma Wool and the trousers are part of a suit from Motel Rocks. I love my chunky rings, and these ones are from Jelly Junk and La Manso. The shoes are incredible, they’re from Naked Wolfe, and the glasses are Thrift Berlin.”
What does fashion mean to you personally?
LULA JONES: Fashion is an identity and for me that’s an important part of every day. I spend time preparing outfits, looking and researching new items and supporting small businesses. Fashion is a beautiful thing to embrace. I’ve been judged in the past for what I wear and I feel the school system suggests that everyone should wear the same uniform and be the same person so unfortunately there is not much room or acceptance for individuality. Your clothing can suggest your mood and who you are – if you wear the ‘uniform’ of your group you just want to fit in – if you go alone and express your identity you are more individual and to me, more interesting. I like to stand out in what I wear and to me, fashion is a piece of walking art. I am now studying Fashion at Uni in London and have built up a successful Depop shop. My shop sells various tees with my photographic/sketched images printed by screen or heat press. It embraces art and freedom.
FRIDAY:
“Today was a comfy day with a spring coloured vibe. The top and trouser jogger set are from House of Sunny. The glasses are from a thrift store from London, the trainers are Balenciaga and the scarf is from Acne Studios.”
