Natalia Seliger tells Sheesh Magazine all about her wellness journey, skincare essentials, and morning routine. Plus an exclusive, simple recipe share.

Q: When did you decide to reroute your lifestyle to focus on health & wellness?

NATALIA SELIGER: “I decided to start focusing on my overall health during my sophomore year of college. I was really struggling internally, never felt confident and faced difficulties finding a healthy balance with food and wellness. I had also developed a really unhealthy relationship with food and fitness, which was taking me away from living my best life. I struggled with binging, restriction and orthorexia the most my freshman year of college. The point that made me change my life around is when I realized how restrictive I was, always saying no to plans because I was so afraid of food and “losing my progress” when in reality, a night out with friends drinking and eating pizza is more valuable and memorable than a night alone  eating my “safe foods” instead. It’s truly been a journey but I’m so happy I made the choice to let go of diet culture and truly start living.”

Q: What pushed you to make your health and wellness journey public?

NATALIA SELIGER: “ I decided to make my health journey public because I never want anyone to struggle the way I did. There are so many toxic platforms on social media, and I wanted to be a light on social media. When I was struggling with my eating disorder, going on social media was not a healthy part of my day-to-day routine. I was following so many toxic influencers that kept shoving an ideal body type or diet on me constantly. They made me feel like being skinny was the only way to be happy, when in reality that is not the case at all. The key to happiness is FREEDOM.”

Q: What’s some words of advice you would want to tell someone struggling to create a healthy relationship with food?

NATALIA SELIGER: “For anyone who is struggling with food, please remember that there is so much more to life than calories and numbers on the scale. The best advice I could give for anyone really struggling is to completely wipe out anyone on social media you catch yourself negatively comparing yourself to, throw out the scale, and stop counting calories. Ever since I made those changes in my life, my life changed for the better.”

Q: Favourite meal of the day?

NATALIA SELIGER: “My favorite meal of the day is breakfast. I could honestly eat breakfast foods all-day, everyday and be the happiest person alive. I just genuinely love all breakfast foods, especially oatmeal.”

Natalia’s Cement Smoothie Recipe:

“This is my go-to meal. The key is to put granola on the bottom of the smoothie bowl, and frozen blueberries as the topping. Also, eat it in the bath if you’re trying to romanticize your life a little.”

Ingredients:

  • Half a frozen banana
  • One cup spinach
  • 1-2 handfuls of frozen blueberries
  • One tbsp of almond or peanut butter
  • One tbsp of chia seeds
  • One tsp of maca powder
  • One scoop chocolate protein
  • Unsweetened vanilla almond milk

Q: What’s your favourite mantra to live by?

NATALIA SELIGER: “‘I have the power within me to create a reality I can’t wait to wake up to.’ Whenever I’m feeling down on myself, or just in a funk, I remind myself that I can rewire my thoughts and literally create a reality I look forward to every single day.”

Q: Morning or night routine? What is your favourite and what does it look like?

NATALIA SELIGER: “My morning routine is much more put together than my nighttime routine. My morning routine usually looks like getting up around 7-8, and journaling five things I’m grateful for and five affirmations for the day. Then I’ll usually do a ‘mind dump’ and just write whatever feels good, or I’ll find prompts on Pinterest. Honestly it just depends on what I’m feeling. Then I’ll post a reel, I try to not scroll through social media first thing because it kinda sets off my day. Once I post the reel, I’ll drink a glass of chlorophyll water, then drink a celsius to get me energized for my workout or movement of the day. After my workout I’ll usually make a cement smoothie or oats, then get in the bath and answer emails.”

Q: What do you do to feel better on days when you’re not feeling your best?

NATALIA SELIGER: “On days I’m not feeling my best I’ll usually either go for a walk by the ocean, make a moodboard on Pinterest, go buy myself an iced oat milk latte with cinnamon, get takeout or dinner with friends, or just watch a Disney movie that makes me feel safe. Something I’m learning is that it’s 100 percent okay to have off days. It’s okay to let yourself feel the feelings for a short period of time, as long as you don’t let them consume you.”
