Introducing FanciClub: Your New Obsession

FanciClub is a fashion brand specializing in handmade, custom pieces curated in Vietnam and made to make you feel exceptional. The brand sources its fabrics through deadstock and local thrift stores in Vietnam, providing a sustainable solution for the fashion obsessed. The deconstructed designs range from dresses to two-piece sets with items quickly selling out the minute they are dropped. While only established this past year, the brand’s unique pieces have already been worn by the internet’s bff Devon Lee Carlson and Italian actress Alice Pagani. SHEESH! had the pleasure of sitting down with Khanh Duy Tran to discuss the inspiration behind the brand, the design process, and its future. At 21 years old he is the creative founder and sole designer of FanciClub.

Q: What was the mission behind establishing FanciClub at the outset?

I wanted to create a sustainable brand since I love to go thrifting. I noticed nobody was buying these fabulous, thrifted fabrics and I didn’t want them to go to waste, so I decided to start reconstructing the clothing into designs I thought people would want to wear.

Q: How did you think of the name ‘FanciClub’?

I love fabulous things and was inspired by the name of Iggy Azalea’s song “Fancy”. So the name developed from the combination of the two.

Q: What is your role within FanciClub?

I do everything. I am the creative director, stylist, and designer. I am in charge of every creative aspect behind FanciClub.

Q: How do you find creative inspiration for your designs?

I am obsessed with 80s and 90s fashion in Vietnam and internationally.

Q: What is the design process like for you?

I tend to make my pieces on the spot. I like to pick certain materials and fabric, play around with them, and sew items together randomly until I am satisfied with the end result. It usually takes me around fifteen minutes to complete one item.

Q: What are your plans for the future?

I want to continue to create unique, one of a kind pieces and meet the growing demand. I plan on expanding my business audience and enter into the international fashion scene.

Q: What do you attribute your success to?

I work with passion. I invest a lot of my time into making these clothes and ensuring that the customer always feels special through each unique piece I make.

Q: Who are some of your style icons?

Jean Paul Gaultier and myself. I think anyone is a trendsetter or style icon as long as you’re confident enough in what you wear.

Q: How would you define your personal style?

I would define my personal style as classic yet elegant. I am obsessed with the vintage scene in Hong Kong and I take inspiration from there as well.

Q: What is fashion for you?

Fashion is my life. I can’t live without it.

Q: If you had any advice for someone starting out, what would it be?

Don’t be afraid to be who you are and live your own life. Live your life to the fullest and acknowledge all the colors inside of you.
