Lucia Zambetti is a 17-year-old singer-songwriter from New York. With only a few songs released, she’s earned over a million total streams and 50,000 monthly listeners on Spotify. Inspired by her family, she started her musical journey two years ago: Lucia picked up a guitar and hasn’t put it down since. Luckily for her fans, Lucia continuously releases indie rock music that takes the listener through a wide range of emotions.

Sheesh Magazine was lucky enough to sit down and chat with Lucia Zambetti about her musical journey, biggest inspirations, and newest single “Don’t Call Me Baby.”

How would you describe your sound?

LUCIA ZAMBETTI: I feel like I’m kind of in the middle of trying a whole bunch of different things. My first two songs were probably a bit more indie rock and then my favorite song that I’ve made was kind of acoustic-like and more calm. I recently have been working on a song that’s more R&B and bedroom pop which will come out soon so I feel like I’m kind of experimenting with my style a lot. But if I had to say what my style is now, I think it would be in the middle of  rock and indie.

What is the production process like for your music?

LUCIA ZAMBETTI: I write all my songs by myself and usually it just starts with me sitting with my guitar and I’m like ‘oh this sounds cool,’ and then I go from there. My dad is a huge help in all of this because he has access to his studio and he’s been teaching me how to produce my own stuff. So I will sit and write the song, and then we will kind of produce the music together. I’ll write some chords and it’ll be a trial and error process to see what we think sounds the best.

What was the inspiration and meaning behind your single, “Good Luck With You?”

LUCIA ZAMBETTI: Usually I just come up with songs, and I don’t normally have specific people in mind that I am writing about. For example, Taylor Swift has centered a lot of her music around different men, but I have never had a person like that to write about. I also just hate the idea of giving a man that type of authority, even though I do love her music. Instead, what really inspired “Good Luck With You” was just watching a lot of movies and TV shows and stuff like that. Through those I have built up this idea of romance and breakups in my head and I think that really inspired the lyrics of this new song.

Who are some of your biggest musical inspirations?

LUCIA ZAMBETTI: Definitely The Beatles. They’re my dad’s all-time favorite band so whenever I’m in need of inspiration I go to them. I am often inspired by a heavier rock sound and I think a lot of that inspiration comes from Motley Crue. Otherwise I am also  inspired by random songs out there, I have a very diverse music taste so honestly I can think of like a thousand different types of writers and musicians that inspire me. I also really love and admire Rex Orange County, but there are just too many to name them all!

What do you hope people take away from your music?

LUCIA ZAMBETTI: I hope that people enjoy my music in multiple ways, so that they could dance around to it, but also scream or cry to it. I definitely do that with my favorite songs and it always makes me feel better. I just want my music to be there for people as a resource to let out their feelings. If they can take that away from my artistry then that’s all I’m here for and all I want to be.

What are some of your biggest goals as an artist?

LUCIA ZAMBETTI: So my all-time biggest goal is to go on a world tour, hopefully one day I’ll get there. My short term goal is definitely to try and find my sound, something that I like and that people like equally as much as I do. I want to be able to experiment with my vocals and really find a sound that is uniquely my own.

Do you want to tell us a little bit about your newest song “Don’t Call Me Baby” that was just released?

LUCIA ZAMBETTI: “Don’t Call Me Baby” is completely different from the rest of my songs. It has more of a lo-fi/groovy beat compared to the alt/indie rock feel that I typically produce. I really like it a lot, and it’s so exciting to be releasing something different genre wise because I’m still trying to find my sound and find what my supporters like. I actually wrote this song on TikTok; I made a TikTok video just messing around and started creating a verse and my dad ran into my room when he saw it, and was like you have to produce this. It was a bit hard at first but I had a bunch of help from my dad, a producer named Lyell Roeder, and the featured rapper, Tate Tucker. This process was super fun and different from my regular process so I hope everyone likes it.
